Chloe 8

Dear Chloe, Happy 8th Birthday! Wow!!! You are growing up so fast! You are such a sweet soul with so much to offer and so many wonderful talents. You are smart, love books, and have so many friends. You are an amazing singer and it always makes us smile when you play the guitar. The next Taylor Swift we think!!! You love playing softball and soccer and your first year on the dance team has proven to be so much fun for you! You love playing with your brother and sister and are definitely the glue that holds the three of you together. You totally rock! You are funny, goofy, sweet, sensitive, caring and such a risk taker. If there is a challenge to be met.....you are the one to meet it (and give it a swift kick in the butt I might add). You love roller coasters, animals, trying new adventures out and you are always first in line when something new presents itself to you. And don't ever forget...you are a cancer survivor....strong, fearless, brave and always our little warrior princess. We love you lots and lots, Mommy and Daddy

right on target!

This was my very first time trying archery and you aren't even going to believe this......I almost got a perfect bullseye! It was a reminder that anything (and everything!) is possible!

telling her story

I was asked by a Junior troop in our council to talk about my experience with cancer. The group of 4th grade Girl Scouts wanted to help with a community service project and decided to help out my clinic at CDH collect bandaids for the bandaid book they have there. I was nervous going into the meeting but Mom said I did an amazing job talking about my experiences (both good and bad) going through treatment for two years. Mom thought we should bring in some props, too, as we thought it would be nice to have some visuals. I did it! The girls were so nice to me and asked lots of great questions! I felt so good after the meeting!!!

1 year off treatment!!!!!

Wow!  Has it already been a year since I had my last spinal tap and took my last dose of chemo???  What a milestone!  I wrote this little journal entry in a book they have out at Living Well and here are some very recent pictures of me.

And port removal surgery is set for May 22nd.  WOW!!!!

Helping Living Well

My sister and Mom and I were asked to be interviewed about Living Well, a place we go to often and that we all feel has been such a wonderful place to go during my treatment and after, too.  They were getting ready for their big annual fundraiser and made this awesome video of some of the people that Living Well has helped.  We were very proud to be a part of it and think it turned out pretty neat.  You might want to grab a kleenex or two.....

happy day

This Valentine's Day my sister and brother and I were a part of a very special occasion.  Our friends, Theresa and Tyler got married and we were the flower girls and ring bearer!! We had so much fun and felt so excited to be a part of their special day!  What is even cooler (my Mom reminded me of this) is that I met Theresa at clinic, where she worked, and her wedding was one day before an anniversary of mine.  Today is the day that I was diagnosed with leukemia three years ago.  A lot has changed in that time and I am happy to report that not only am I cancer free, but I am feeling pretty groovy.  But what is really, really neat, is that I met someone as special as Theresa, at a time when everything in my life seemed to be turned upside down.  I was so proud and happy to be walking in front of her as she said "I do".

the power of yellow

After one of my soccer games my Mom took me to Dairy Queen (aka...one of my favorite places) and I looked in the window of the shop next door and saw this sign. I wanted my Mom to take a picture of me in front of it. Last month was Childhood Cancer Awareness month. What does that mean? Well, it means that the yellow ribbon, which symbolizes childhood cancer, is put out there to raise awareness for this epidemic. They want people to talk about it, think about it and try to find a way to cure it! Please watch this video narrated by my favorite oncologist, Dr. Canner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myW82uNAr4I

celebrity status

Remember when my Mom and I were asked to be a part of a marketing campaign for the hospital to help raise money for a new Child Life Specialist? That was fun.....and we came across this picture when we were looking at old pictures the other day. And then my mom's friend found another picture of me on the Cadence website (we didn't even know it was there!!!). Check it out: http://cadencehealth.org/Giving.aspx

celebrating with Monkey

What an awesome way for me to finish up 1st grade!!!! My Mom and Grandma and Grandpa surprised me by having a "end of treatment/party for me and Monkey" party in my classroom! Mrs. B organized it so they were our Friday secret readers and they brought treats for everyone and it was so much fun. I won't be needing Monkey to sit in for me while I am gone very much anymore because I won't be at clinic as much.

Our music recital is tomorrow and I am a little nervous because I am singing and playing the guitar this time. And Claire is playing her first violin solo. Big day for both of us!!! Wish us luck!
